MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

March 27, 2006

Dear Members and Prospective Members:

Enclosed is information about renewing your membership to MSCSC for the 2006 season. The pool board has been very active again this winter and all of the hard work is paying off in several ways.

When you come to the pool you will notice new pool furniture including new chairs and umbrellas to make your poolside experience more comfortable and better than ever. Based on our special meeting last August and our annual meeting last October, we have contracted with an experienced pool architect to conduct a feasibility study regarding our renovation and expect to be able to show you the results of the study at the start of the season. We also anticipate that architectural renderings will be on prominent display as you enter the pool on opening day and we plan on holding focus group discussions that will further refine the specifics of the renovation. Finally, we also have a great new web site, where you can get current information about the pool as well as any forms that you may need. To see the pool web site, go to www.mscswimclub.com.

Most importantly, please let your friends and new neighbors know that now's the time to join our wonderful swim club. With our new furniture, friendly atmosphere, uncrowded facility and exciting renovation plan, everyone can have a relaxing time this summer. Be sure to let everyone know that we are experiencing a rebirth of a pool with great history and community ties. We are offering a free week for any prospective members to enjoy our pool and to meet our members. We are confident that once they see our friendly atmosphere, new furniture and renovation plan, they will join our pool family. Please let me know if you have any leads on new members and I will put them in touch with our new membership coordinator, Trish Regan.

There is a modest increase in dues this year. The dues will be used to help pay for the new furniture as well as some safety upgrades that we made last year. Our review of pricing for other pools in our area reveals that even after this small increase in dues, we still have one of the lowest membership rates of any comparable local community pool.

We are pleased to announce that we have retained Denise Adams as our swim coach again this year. We are very lucky to have someone of Denise's caliber coaching at our pool as she is a top-certified instructor with collegiate-level experience. We welcome back Denise and look forward to a great season for the Seahawks.

The following are some general items that I would like to bring to your attention:

  • Volunteers are needed! We need additional volunteers, particularly to the lead social activities committee and the beautification committee. Because we are an "all-volunteer-army", the quality of your experience is often tied to the efforts of a few overworked volunteers. Please contact me and I will put you in touch with the appropriate people.
  • The board has several openings that we are looking to fill. Rick Matta has gone above and beyond the call of duty as treasurer for almost six years and we are looking to fill his spot at the end of this season.
  • We ask that members purchase guest passes by check only. Eliminating as much cash as possible at the front desk will increase the revenue that we ultimately collect for guest fees.
  • Any ideas that you have to increase membership are greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact me at tgebler@earthlink.net or 301-309-2390 to discuss them.

Finally, our records indicate that we do not have an email address for you on file. As we move forward with the pool's renovation plans all updates will be sent to members via email. Therefore, if you would like to be kept up to date on the progress of the pool's renovation, please supply us with your email address by filling in the appropriate line on the attached Membership Renewal Form. Your email will be kept strictly confidential and will not be used for anything other that pool related business.

The board of Montgomery Square Copenhaver Swim Club looks forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Sincerely,

Tom Gebler
President - MSCSC
