UPDATE ON POOL RENOVATION
FOR MONTGOMERY SQUARE COPENHAVER
SWIM CLUB MEMBERS
June 5, 2007
Dear Fellow Pool Member:
Two weeks ago we wrote to brief you on the progress of our pool renovation and plans for the season. At that time we hoped to open by June 9th on the assumption that we would be able to quickly resolve the County permit issues that had suspended most of our construction activity. Regrettably, although we resolved most permitting issues with the County since our last letter, last week the County raised additional issues that involve new code requirements. We continue to maintain with the County that because the pool is being renovated and not rebuilt that many of the requirements identified by the County are not applicable. Nevertheless, the time it is taking to resolve these issues and complete construction activities means that we now expect to open the pool Wednesday, July 4th.
The Board and our contractor are working to resolve the remaining issues with the County through daily contacts with permitting officials so that we can quickly finalize our renovation. In the meantime all MSCSC members may continue to use the Country Glen pool located at 10055 Glen Road, Potomac. They are open:
Now - June 14
M-F: 3:30-9:00 PM
Weekends: 12:00-9:00 PM
June 15 - Labor Day
Every day: 11AM-9PM
See their website, http://countryglen.org for occasional late openings and early closings for swim meets.
Country Glen has not been requiring our members to show their Montgomery Square Copenhaver pool cards. However, to keep track of our total usage, we will be asking our members to sign in. MSCSC 2007 stickers will be in the mail soon to all members who have paid.
The Seahawks Swim Team has been practicing at Country Glen, and time trials will be held at Quail Valley this Saturday morning, June 9th. Please contact Rebecca Cornelius (rebeccacornelius@comcast.net 301-762-9535) or check MSC events calendar for details and schedules. Swim team practices are scheduled through June, and our swim meets will be away until we open.
An MSC Board member will be present at the start of each swim practice this week (Mon., Wed., and Fri., June 4, 6, & 8, from 6:30-7:00 PM) to answer member questions about the renovation, our schedule for opening, etc.
We also invite all members to visit the pool construction site this Saturday at 1 PM for a tour of the renovation. You'll be impressed with the progress we've made and get a peek at the water toys for the tot pool and the slide for the grown up tots.
Finally, thank you for your patience, as we push to get this project finished. Thanks to all our members for hanging in with us and to those members who have stepped forward to help us with particular tasks. And thanks to Laurie Gira, Lauri Over, Laura Glynn, Rebecca Cornelius, and our swim coaches for starting the season in difficult conditions.
